2019: Modernizing Canadian Payments - A Vision for the Canadian Payments Ecosystem

At the heart of our economy is a national payments system, safely circulating billions of dollars each day. The payments system must modernize to support the rapidly changing needs and expectations of the Canadian marketplace; and foster innovation and strengthen competition within the payments ecosystem. Ryan Grundy, Lead, Industry Relations, Payments Canada will outline Payments Canada's Modernization journey, and what Payments Canada is doing to develop a modern payments system that will provide new opportunities to simplify and enhance Canadians’ daily payment interactions and help secure and strengthen Canada’s competitive position as a global leader in financial services. Additionally, as part of Payments Canada's efforts to meet the needs of Canadians, they have embarked on a series of consultations with Canadian Corporations to learn about their experiences with Commercial payments and their aspirations for Modernization, the key findings of which will be shared with our AFP-Ottawa Group in the presentation.

Lead, Industry Relations, Payments Canada

Ryan Grundy has a passion for payments and people and is currently Lead, Industry Relations with Payments Canada. He is responsible for direct engagement with industry participants to help shape the modernization of Canada’s core clearing and settlement infrastructure, and to raise awareness, drive advocacy and enable readiness for adoption of Payments Canada's Modernization platforms. Ryan has more than 20 years' experience in relationship management in the retail banking and Wealth Management space with Canadian chartered Financial Institutions, and is motivated by the desire to create alignment between Payments Canada and players in the Canadian Payments ecosystem to deliver a best-in-class payments experience for all Canadians.
