Topic: Hockey’s Back – Ottawa Senators Season Primer
Cyril Leeder, FCP, FCPA was one of a small group of people who brought the NHL franchise to Ottawa in 1990. Mr. Leeder has also been a major force that won the rights to host the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship, the 2012 NHL All Star Weekend and the 2013 World Women’s Hockey Championship. In 2012, Mr. Leeder was inducted into the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame and in 2008 he was honoured as the Business Person of the Year at the Ottawa Business Achievement Awards. A founding member of the Ottawa Community Ice Partnership, Mr. Leeder now serves as a director of the not-for-profit organization, which developed and built the Bell Sensplex in Kanata and the Richcraft Sensplex in Beacon Hill in a partnership established with the City of Ottawa. Mr. Leeder also spearheaded the public-private-partnership with the City of Ottawa for the development of the Cavanagh Sensplex in nearby Kinburn, Ont. and the SENS RINK of Dreams at Ottawa City Hall. In addition to his duties as a member of the Board of Directors of the Ottawa Senators Foundation, Mr. Leeder will serve his 17th tenure as chairman of the Bell Capital Cup hockey tournament.
