AFP-Ottawa is excited to announce Councillor Mathieu Fleury; and Guy Laflamme, Executive Director of Ottawa 2017 will be our special keynote speakers to celebrate the launch of our 2016-17 Program Year!    

Topic: Ottawa 2017 - The Place to Celebrate Canada's 150th Anniversary!

The keynote presentations will focus on this commemorative celebration of Confederation and provide some insight into the City of Ottawa’s business strategy and how this historic event will transform the City’s brand and economy.

Keynote Speakers:

Councillor Mathieu Fleury, Rideau-Vanier Ward 

Councillor Fleury grew up in Ottawa and lived in Sandy Hill and Lowertown neighbourhoods for the majority of his life. He is a graduate of the University of Ottawa, where he completed a Masters degree in sports management. After completing his studies, Mathieu decided to take a leap into municipal politics. In 2010, he won the municipal election for the Rideau-Vanier ward and became the youngest Councillor at the City Council table at the age of 25. Since coming to City Hall, Mathieu has worked for the betterment and beautification of the National Capital and the Rideau Vanier Ward, which is home to Lowertown, Sandy Hill and Vanier. 

In addition to his work at City Council, Mathieu is an active member of a number of committees: he is the chair the Ottawa Community Housing Board, member of the Transportation Committee and Community and Protective Services Committee, board member of Ottawa Public Health and Ottawa Sports Council, and co-chair of the City’s Task Force on Canada’s 150th Anniversary in 2017.

Guy Laflamme, Executive Director of Ottawa 2017

Guy Laflamme has extensive experience producing major events and commemorations. His previous successes have included Canada Day Celebrations, the Winterlude Festival, Mosaika (the incredible Sound and Light Show on Parliament Hill) as the Senior Vice President of Capital Experience at the NCC and the spectacular H2K, Millennium show produced at the Casino Lac Leamy. He also acted as Chair of the JUNO Awards Host Committee in 2003 and 2012 and the Genie Awards Host Committee in 2009. For the last 25 years he has been a professor with the Telfer School of Management in the Executive MBA program and has also been teaching for the last 8 years with the University of Bucharest Business School. In addition to his role of Head of Celebrations for Ottawa 2017, he is also the chair-elect of International Festival and Events Association.

5:30PM – 6:00PM: Registration and Networking

6:00PM – 6:15PM: Welcome Remarks, 2016-17 Program Launch

6:15PM – 7:00PM: Keynote Speakers' Presentations followed by Q&A

7:00PM: Closing Remarks and Prize Draws

7:00PM - 8:00PM: Post-Event Reception will be catered by ARC.The Hotel.
